The Small Islands Ferry Companies Association
The Small Islands Ferry Companies is an association of island and ‘short cut’
ferries in Denmark. The association was founded in 1988. The Associations’
ferries mainly serve the smaller island communities, as well as maintaining
fjord crossings, for example across Limfjorden, Randers fjord, Alssund and
Isefjorden. |
Many of the ferries are run by local councils as companies such as public
limited companies, private limited companies etc. There are some privately owned
routes. Altogether approximately 37 ferry companies are members of the
Association. |
The Association represents shipping companies with ferries of various sizes
ranging from pure passenger ships to car ferries with space for only two cars to
the largest with space for up to 30 cars. The ferries have varying journey
times, from as little as 2 minutes to as much as 2 1/2 hours for the longest
routes. The Association’s shipping companies employ approx. 360 staff. |
